Plan Your Voyage Over the Internet (Standard Daily, December 8, 2003)

Few people in Bulgaria know that using the Internet they can buy tickets for all airlines in the world. This is possible through the Bulgaria-based American company TravelStoreMaker.com (TravelStoreMaker.com). TravelStoreMaker.com specializes in the development of e-commerce technology for the air travel business. The company was founded in 2000. Its main investors are the Global Distribution System Worldspan and former US Navy Admiral Bobby Inman. TravelStoreMaker.com is registered in Delaware, USA. Administration, marketing, software development and all global sales, however, are executed from TravelStoreMaker.com's headquarters in Sofia, managed by the CEO John Hazlewood.
The main product offered by TravelStoreMaker.com is a multilingual Internet Booking Engine (IBE) for airline tickets, hotel rooms and car rentals. The newest language, integrated into the system in November 2003, is Japanese. The other languages available through the TravelStoreMaker.com IBE are Bulgarian, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Dutch, Russian, Romanian, Polish, Hungarian and Greek. TSM allows each customer to personally organize their complete travel itinerary: book and buy a plane ticket, reserve a hotel room and rent a car solely over the Internet.
About 45% of all ticket sales in the US and Canada and over 18% in Europe are done through the Internet. Unfortunately, the Bulgarian market still depends on cash payment. The reason for this is the fierce competition for commissions, which are pretty high here (5-7%) and increase airline expenses. In the US and Canada airline commission is already 0%. TravelStoreMaker.com has started negotiations to implement its product for the two leading Bulgarian airlines, Hemus Air and Bulgaria Air.
