5 Tips for Perfect First Date Makeup

First dates are arguably the most terrifying events you will ever experience in your life time. There are very few things that can ease the anxiety of a first date. The most confident, badass women find themselves mortified when they find themselves bravely stepping into a coffee shop, eager to make a decent first impression.

While there is very little you can do to ease your nerves, there are still things you can do to help yourself feel less anxious.

Both women and men usually find themselves thinking hyper critically about their appearance as they get ready to get picked up at six. As a lady who has gone on a-many of first dates, I can assure you that one of the best ways to quell anxiety about your appearance is to know what you’re doing as far as makeup goes.

I’ve compiled a couple tips so that you’re not still struggling with your contour, when all those potential suitors come calling to take you out on that terrifying yet exciting first date:

1. Avoid the Instagram Brow
When you’re going out on a date you should try to avoid beauty trends that even make-up artists hate. For example: try not do an Instagram Brow. By Instagram brow I mean really dark eyebrows with harsh lines.

Eyebrows in real life don’t do that. They don’t abruptly start and finish, but have blended edges. Natural looking brows frame your face better and don’t make you look like a cartoon.

Instagram makeup belongs in the club and on your timeline, that’s it. It most certainly doesn’t belong on a first date as it’s likely to end up on your napkin, your coffee cup, and later his face.

2. Don’t Over Do It with the Highlighter
While the highlighter explosion is one of the best things to happen to makeup (I mean have you seen that Anastasia Beverly Hills pallet?) You should take it easy on your first date. You don’t want to look like a literal strobe light. However, the strobing trend is encouraged.

The dewy, strobing look is encouraged as there’s minimal contour involved which can get messy and harsh looking. Use highlighter sparingly on your cheekbones, forehead, the bridge of your nose, cupids bow, and under your eyebrow. This way you can make your features pop without spending 30 minutes contouring the hell out of your face.

3. Kiss Proof Lipstick is a Must
The goal of a date is for it to go well am I right? So you might want to make sure that if you’re going to wear lipstick it should be food, kiss, and even BJ proof (hey, maybe the date goes really well!).

I highly recommend Kylie Jenner’s lip kits, Kat Von D’s lipsticks, and Ciante’s lipsticks. There is no way that that ish is coming off your face.

Avoid lip gloss. No one likes a sticky kiss.

4. Contour for the Occasion
If your idea of a first date is a romantic hike, then take it easy on the makeup. If you’re going out to coffee there’s no need to wear fake lashes. If you’re going out to dinner, than lipstick is certainly appropriate.

If you’re going to be going out during the day, wear a fresh daytime face. If you’re going out at night and there might be some partying in your future, than by all means contour like a Kardashian.

5. Practice Makes Perfect
The best way to make sure your face is flawless on a first date is to practice. Carve out some time a couple days before your date to perfect your date night look. You’ll feel more confidant and you’ll be less likely to screw up moments before he comes and picks you up!
